About the Whakatane Sportfishing Club

The Whakatane Sportfishing Club is located on the main wharf in Muriwai Drive beside the picturesque Whakatane river.

Our club facilities include a magnificent bar made of timeless Rimu carried over from the old clubrooms complemented with a modern lounge/dining area and covered deck downstairs whilst upstairs the Anchorage Lounge Bar which overlooks the main downstairs bar and lounge area opens up to the outside viewing / dining deck with unobstructed views of the river, Whale Island and White Island (active Volcano) and the ocean beyond.

The bar is open daily from 11am to close and our warm, friendly and efficient staff will make your visit to the club a pleasure.

Clean showers & toilets can be found off the main downstairs lounge area with toilet facilities also available in the upstairs Anchorage lounge. We also have disabled facilities with ramp access via the main wharf entrance, toilet and shower facilities as well as elevator access to the upstairs Anchorage lounge bar.

We have a modern Gaming Room available for patrons with some of your old favourites as well as some of the latest games available.

Skippers Restaurant is open daily for fine lunch’s from12noon - 2pm and evening meals from 6pm - 9pm. There is an a la carte menu with club and bar meals available to suit the needs of all visitors to our club. Over the summer months Skippers is open from 10am – 2pm for weekend brunches.

We have our very popular Club Nights with Wednesday night membership draws and the best “fill-a-gut” and $25 meat pack raffles in the bay. Friday nights include our Happy Hour on all handles of draught beer and glasses of house wine, membership draw and $25 meat pack raffles.

We also boast the biggest screen in town as well as three smaller TV’s situated throughout the club for your viewing pleasure.

The walls are adorned with an extensive collection of fish mounts with over 40 different species to view from a massive 1221lb Black Marlin to a 4.5lb Blue Cod. Something different for all the family to see.

We are affiliated with the NZSFC and the IGFA and have an annual calendar of events covering a wide range of tournaments throughout the fishing season from the highly anticipated 20K 4Way Tournament fished by over 400 anglers to the Annual Trout Tournament fished by around 90 anglers. Your catch is easily weighable from your boat at our weigh station and our experienced, friendly team of weigh masters will weigh your tournament winner or your NZ/World record catch with ease.

From the once a month fisho to the die-hard angler the Whakatane Sportfishing Club has something to offer to all anglers.
